  • The Heat Trace Myth: Many owners believe that if there’s a visible light on the device, the pipe is protected. This is false. A heat trace cable can snap internally, burn out, or have rodent damage while the indicator light remains on.

    • The Licensed Difference. An unlicensed worker looks for the light. We test the physics. We measure the actual amperage (current draw) on each cable to ensure there is heat generation and not just low power being consumed.

  • Generator Dependability: A backup generator is useless if the battery is dead or the oil is sludge.

    • The Licensed Difference. We perform forced transfer tests to simulate a grid failure. We then confirm proper voltage is present, ensuring your transfer switch engages and your home remains powered when the grid goes dark.

WINTER: When the temperature hits -20°C and below, your cottage fights a battle against the elements. Many potential dangers arise and most of them can’t be seen until it’s too late.

SPRING: The Water & Wire Danger

As the ice shifts and melts, it can crush conduits and cables, and sever the connections near your waterfront. This has the potential to create a terrifying hazard for cottage owners. Stray Voltage.

  • The Invisible Hazard: With an increase in power usage at the waterfront (electric boat chargers, intricate boathouses with modern appliances, & high voltage boatlift systems), electrical wiring is more abundant than ever. Damaged wiring can leak electricity into the water around your dock. It is invisible, silent, and can lead to Electric Shock Drowning (ESD) for swimmers, pets & wildlife.

    • The Licensed Difference: We use specialized probes and equipment to scan the water and grounding systems around your dock/ boathouse. We understand the unique challenges of grounding in the regions granite. We can ensure your waterfront is code-compliant, fully GFCI (ground fault circuit interruption) protected and safe for your family & guests.

Why Hire A Licensed Electrician?

Can’t my property manager check this?

Property managers and property maintenance personal are excellent for general repairs & visual inspections after storm damage, but they are not trained (or insured) to open electrical panels, diagnose voltage irregularities, and install remote monitoring systems.

Northern Shield is Technical Asset Protection.

  • We See What Others Miss: Using thermal imaging & metering equipment, we can see overheating breakers inside your panel before they trip or cause a hazard.

  • Master Electrician Oversight: Every inspection is backed by an ESA/ECRA License. We understand calculated loads, code requirements, and the specific stresses that rural infrastructure places on your electrical system.

  • Liability protection: Insurance companies love documentation. Our detailed digital reports provide proof that you have maintained your electrical infrastructure to the highest professional standard.
